The constant supply of heated water is provided by the nearby power plant: Svartsengi. The water used in The Blue Lagoon is supplied by being vented from the underground geothermal springs quite near to the Blue Lagoon, which then go to drive the huge turbines that generate Electricity for the power plant. The byproduct being a surplice of steam and hot water which is then passed through a heat exchanger to heat the water for the hot water system. This water is the pumped into the Blue lagoon for users to enjoy.

The Blue Lagoon is situated 13 km from Keflavík International Airport (Iceland’s Main Airport) in a lava field quite close to Grindavík, close to the Reykjanes Peninsula in the South of Iceland. The Blue Lagoon is very easy to find and is sign posted in English aswell as other languages for easy driving directions. Many tourist handbooks will give directions. It may also be beneficial to tourists to ask your accommodation providers for any discount or offers that are currently in place. Current prices were at time of publishing: Adults: EUR 28, Children under 14: free when accompanying an adult, Teenagers 14-15: EUR  10. Please check before hand.

All swimming pools adhere to a strict hygiene code, which requires all bathers to remove all clothing (including bathing costumes) and shower before and after bathing.

The Blue Lagoon Iceland

 

The mysterious Blue Lagoon (Bláa lónið in Icelandic) has for many a year been one, if not the most visited attraction in Iceland by tourists. The natural geothermal spa is made up of waters that are rich in Sulpha and Silicia that stem from nearby lava formations.

Temperatures within the Blue Lagoon areas that are open to visitors usually average 36-39 °C (98–102 °F).

Many have visitors to the spa have proclaimed the healing qualities for conditions such as Eczema and psoriasis. The Blue Lagoon have also implemented a Research and Development society that currently produce and retail natural Skin remedies, whilst also conducting further research into natural treatments for other skin conditions.
